The Faculty of Computing at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in Sri Lanka marked a historic milestone on the 20th of May 2021. They became the first-ever student chapter of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL), as they hosted a captivating webinar titled "Gen Z." This event was a part of the CSSL's 45th-anniversary celebration, and it showcased the dynamic potential of the CSSL GenZ chapter.

Undergraduate chapters within the CSSL, now branded as CSSL GenZ chapters, serve as mini-computer Societies within their respective universities. KDU's Faculty of Computing emerged as trailblazers in this regard, spearheading the student chapter initiative.

Mr. Anupa Ranasinghe, the President of the CSSL GenZ Chapter at KDU, along with committee member Ms. Hiruni Rajapaksha, conveyed the student chapter's goals and outlined the agenda for the upcoming year. Their dedication and enthusiasm set a promising tone for the newly established chapter.

The webinar's keynote speaker was Mr. Nicholas Tate, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Southeast Asia Regional Computer Consortium, hailing from Australia. His insights added a global perspective to the event. Additionally, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing at KDU, Dr. Asela Gunasekara, delivered a guest speech that emphasized the significance of this achievement.

The event saw participation from students representing six universities across Sri Lanka, as well as Dr. Nirosha Wedasinghe, who oversees the CSSL Student Chapter. This historic moment not only underscores KDU's commitment to fostering excellence in computing education but also highlights the vibrant and collaborative spirit within Sri Lanka's computing community. As the CSSL GenZ Chapter at KDU paves the way, it is poised to lead the charge in nurturing the next generation of tech leaders in the nation.
